About
A firm built the way we invest.
Operator centric with the support systems to scale.
Flagstaff Partners is a private investment firm in Denver, Colorado. We exist to find strong businesses in underrepresented verticals and help them grow through acquisition.
Why we started
We believe that there are many small businesses that have a great product or service but lack the resources to expand. We have implemented systems and processes through previous business endeavors that can be replicated in most business verticals.
We started Flagstaff to take this approach to the entirety of the lower market rather than a single industry.
The name comes from the mountains.
Why "Flagstaff"
Flagstaff, Arizona is the endurance running capital of the United States. Jeff was a Division 1 runner, and Tony was a Division 1 cross country skier. They took the grind of endurance sports to the world of finance.
Owning and operating a small business is much like an endurance sport: most problems are relatively simple, but the problems can be endless and require the same consistent drive over long periods of time. Scaling a small business through M&A invites even more complexity. We believe that this can be addressed through planning, proper systems, and the right team in place. Nothing we do is complicated, but everything we do requires constant dedication and hard work, no different than our upbringing in endurance sports.
What we believe
Durable businesses are built by people who expect to be around for the results of their decisions. We hold ourselves to the same standard. We invest our own capital alongside our investors', we say what we mean in plain terms, and we'd rather lose a deal than win it with promises we can't keep.
Values
- Trust
- Earned in diligence, kept after close. What we say in the first meeting is still held in year ten.
- Candor
- Plain answers, including the ones that cost us. Owners deserve to know exactly what working with us looks like.
- Patience
- Compounding does the heavy lifting when you give it room. We measure progress in years, not quarters.
- Alignment
- Our capital sits next to our investors' and next to management's equity. Everyone wins the same way.
